WEP (Women in Engineering Program) Wednesdays are a chance
to learn useful information in engineering and to interact with fellow women
engineers. Cheryl, our amazing Director of the Women in Engineering
Program, runs these helpful meetings about once a month. She always sends every
woman engineer a few, ok a lot, of reminder emails to make sure that we
register and remember to come because it is always well worth it. Each
meeting is on a different topic to help us as engineers. Some examples
are: how to tackle the career fair, research opportunities and study abroad,
and tips for finals week.
When you arrive, you can pick up an agenda and sign in so Cheryl can know how many people attended. Then we are always fed! Thanks to generous donors, Cheryl is able to provide us with dinner at every WEP Wednesday. Once everyone has gotten through the pizza or sub line, Cheryl begins with announcements to explain the evening’s topic. Then, she turns it over to a panel of upper-class women engineers who talk about the topic and answer any questions.
The meetings last about an hour so it does not take up too much of your time, and it is well worth it to attend. It is also a great way to catch up with friends who you’ve met at WEPO or to meet some new friends.
