As most of you already know, getting involved in sports is a
huge part of being a Nittany Lion. There are so many ways to get involved,
whether it’s through attending varsity games or joining club or intramural
teams. The easiest way to get involved in the sports programs offered by Penn
State is to attend football games. If you have not purchased season tickets,
you can buy individual game tickets through the student ticket exchange board. Some
of my favorite Penn State memories have taken place in Beaver Stadium like our
win against Ohio State two years ago. There are also many other varsity sports
teams that you can watch compete including gymnastics, volleyball, soccer,
basketball, wrestling and even more!
If you prefer playing these sports rather than observing,
you can join club or intramural teams. Club teams have a more competitive edge
and travel to play against other universities. These also require students to
try out, be selected by other team members and practice regularly. Intramural
teams are much more relaxed and allow you to make your own team and compete
against other Penn State students once a week. Different sports are offered
during different times of the year and you can log onto the IM Sports website
to pick a sport and sign up your team.
Penn State also offers a variety of clubs you can join that
are for more uncommon sports. Some of these include Skiing, Archery, Croquet,
Cricket, Boxing, Dodgeball and even Quidditch. You can learn more about these
clubs on the Student Affairs website or by attending the Involvement fair the
second week of classes!
