Ways to Destress During Finals Week

Getting bombarded by two hour long exams for a whole week while trying to study can seem like a lot for a anyone to handle, especially during her first year. Studying in advance is a great way to decrease the workload of the week. Even with those hours spent preparing, students still need some ways to get rid of that extra stress.

1)     Attend Destress Fest!
Penn State offers free ways to chill out during the week at the library. There are free coloring pages, snacks, and coffee. Take a few friends and hang out for an hour or two to break away from the studying frenzy.

2)     Watch Some Netflix
Laughing your heart out to a TV show will definitely make you feel better between exams. I recommend The Office, Friends, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and The Good Place. Everyone feels better snuggled up in a fuzzy blanket and watching some comedies.

3)     Arrive at Your Exam Early and Know Your Exam Location
There is nothing worse than running to a final exam while frantically looking on your phone for the testing location! Be sure to look for the location in advance and plan to get there 15 minutes early. The extra time will let you pick a great seat and settle in for the final.

4)     Go Out to Eat for Some Healthy Food
A girl’s brain has to do some hard work during the week. You want to make sure that your body has good nutrients to fuel all that brain activity! Try to pick some healthy food prior to your exam. It will help prevent that sugar crash midway through the final and help you stay full for the whole duration. Grab a friend and treat yourself to some Fiddlehead!

5)     Workout
Few activities compare to the pure rush of endorphins post-workout. Take some time to plan in a workout class or run. The workout will help you get rid of all the tension in your body and give you an energy boost to help push through the day.

No matter what activity you choose- make sure to enjoy it! You are a strong and intelligent woman that is about to crush some finals!
